We’re thrilled to announce that Friends of Williamstown Wetlands has been awarded a Healthy Cities Landcare Grant to deliver a major new restoration project over the coming year.
Our Grasslands for People and Wildlife project will restore a degraded section of grassland within the Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve — part of a highly significant coastal ecosystem in Hobsons Bay. This transformational work is made possible thanks to generous support from Bupa and Landcare Australia.
The newly funded project will focus on revitalising an important area adjacent to the walking path leading to Jawbone Marine Sanctuary, a popular swimming and snorkelling destination.
The project will begin with invasive weed control with the help of Bunurong Land Council, followed by targeted hand-weeding by our dedicated FOWW volunteers. Then comes the exciting part: a series of community planting days where together we’ll plant more than 3,000 native grasses to help rebuild this endangered habitat.
Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve is one of Williamstown’s most loved natural spaces, and this grant gives us a unique opportunity to restore critical wildlife habitat while creating a healthier, more beautiful place for everyone to enjoy.
Local residents, volunteers and students will be invited to get involved during hands-on planting days in Autumn and Winter 2026. When complete, the revitalised grassland will boost biodiversity, strengthen habitat connections and help ensure the reserve remains vibrant, resilient and welcoming for both people and wildlife.
